Frequently asked Marine questions
Find reliable insights and practical guidance for marine, offshore, and shipbuilding projects.
What standards do your marine products meet?
EN, IEC, CE, CSA, ANSI, NEMA, with marine approvals by DNV, ABS, RINA, CCS, BV, LR, KR, NK (others on request).
What marine propulsion solutions do you offer?
We offer a wide portfolio of marine motors and drives for propulsion applications. You can rely on our solutions for diesel-electric propulsion, azimuth, tunnel and bow thrusters, shaft generator systems, and auxiliary or emergency generators. Our low voltage & medium voltage motors, and medium voltage drives deliver reliable performance in demanding marine environments.
What power range covers your marine portfolio?
Our marine portfolio includes motors up to 29 MW, medium voltage drives up to 47 MVA, generator solutions up to 32 MVA, and voltage ranges from 400 V to 13.8 kV. This flexibility supports commercial vessels, offshore platforms, and port electrification projects.
How energy-efficient are your marine systems?
Energy efficiency shapes every design. Our systems offer efficiencies up to 98.5%, motors with optimised starting current for network-friendly operation, and variable speed drives even without output filters. Optimised system design reduces CO₂ emissions and boosts long-term operational savings.
Can your systems handle extreme conditions?
Yes. We design our systems for demanding marine and offshore environments, including high ambient temperatures, continuous vibration, limited installation space, and corrosive salt exposure. Our solutions feature marine-grade coatings up to NORSOK standards and protection classes up to IP56, with optional air- or water-cooled concepts to ensure reliable performance and efficiency at sea.
What MV drive solutions work in marine?
Our medium voltage solutions use modular multilevel converter technology with power ranges from 1 MVA to 47 MVA. You can work with two or four quadrant operation, integrated or separate transformers, air- or water-cooled concepts, and modular topologies with cell redundancy. These solutions fit propulsion systems, compressors, pumps, and LNG-related applications.
Does Innomotics support onshore power supply?
Yes. Our portfolio supports Onshore Power Supply for port electrification with medium-voltage converter systems up to 90 MVA and the capability to supply multiple vessels simultaneously. This enables significant CO₂ reduction and more sustainable port operations. The solutions are designed to be future-proof and compliant with evolving EU and international regulations, ensuring long-term operational and environmental alignment.
How does modularity improve marine reliability?
Modularity speeds up maintenance, simplifies spare parts planning, and reduces downtime. You gain upgrade options that extend system longevity. Modular topologies and robust motor construction secure long-term availability.
What lifecycle services are available?
Our lifecycle services include Commissioning, Inspection and Health Check, Technical Support and Diagnostics, Repair Services, Spare Parts on Demand, Lifecycle Service Agreements, and Digital Services. We focus on maximising availability and lifecycle value.
