The oil and gas industry is characterized by extreme demands placed on the drive technology used. This not only applies to the high explosion risk inherent in both commodities, but also to the place of deployment, whether it be offshore on the high seas, in polar regions or in the desert. The Innomotics XP CHEMSTAR version, designed specifically for the oil and gas industry, takes this into account. The basic and additional features are combined in such a way that the motors ensure maximum safety and plant availability while simultaneously reducing lifecycle costs, even under the extreme conditions of oil and gas production and transport.
In the chemical industry, flammable gases, liquids and solids are converted and processed in a variety of processes that are often complex. There is a risk of explosion in many different plant components, due for example to flammable solvents, or because the special work processes can produce so-called hybrid mixtures. These contain both gas and dust that is potentially explosive and have low minimum ignition energies. The motor used must therefore function continuously and efficiently, even in chemically aggressive atmospheres. In the Innomotics XP CHEMSTAR version, specifically designed for the chemical industry, the motor is customized precisely to these environmental conditions and thus ensures maximum reliability and safety.
The high seas are also hazardous places to work. These include offshore drilling and production platforms, as well as oil tankers, explosive chemicals or liquid natural gas (LNG), where particular caution is required. The list of hazardous locations where motors are used on such ships or platforms, both above and below deck, is long.
Below deck there are the main propulsion units, bow thrusters, azimuth drives and compressors, as well as pumps and fans for a wide variety of tasks. Hazardous locations above deck include winches, cranes, boosters and deep-well pumps. In all these locations, Innomotics XP Motors in explosion-proof enclosures ensure maximum safety - their suitability for marine applications is underscored by the major international marine certification:
- LR - Lloyds Register (UK)
- DNV GL - Det Norske Veritas / Germanischer Lloyd (Norway / Germany)
- BV - Bureau Veritas (France)
- RINA - Registro Italiano Navale (Italy)
- ABS – American Bureau of Shipping (USA)
- KR – Korean Register of Shipping
Explosion protection is particularly important in the hydrogen industry because we are working with one of the most explosive gases of all. This also applies in particular to the motors, which are used in all process steps here, from production through transport and storage to end-use. Typical applications are auxiliary drives, heat exchangers and the compressors used in several steps of the process. For all drive applications along the hydrogen value chain, we offer Innomotics XP Motors designed for gas group IIC, with a concept proven for decades many thousand times over in processing and handling of highly explosive gases.
For pump and fan application we recommend our explosion proof low voltage motors in type of protection increased safety Ex eb. The technical and price economically optimized motor concept for the chemical industry fits best for or direct on-line (DOL) applications in outputs from 0.25 to 165 kW.
Optionally, motors in type of protection flameproof Ex db IIC can be used for pumps, fans and additionally best for compressor applications. They can be used either on the mains or optionally and best in class when operated with any frequency converter in the power range from 0.09 to 460kW.
In combination with our industry specific solution Innomotics XP CHEMSTAR for the chemical industry we can meet preconfigured the requirements of the hydrogen industry.
